Dr. Derek Tong graduated with Honors from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University, where he also completed residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy. He has been practicing optometry since 1998 and received Fellowships from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry (ABO) and has faculty appointment as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of both the Marshall B. Ketchum University and the Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry.
Dr. Tong is the Founder, Clinic Director and Residency Supervisor of the Center for Vision Development Optometry in Pasadena, CA. The center receives referrals from physicians, educators, child development specialists, and rehabilitation professionals. The center is known for its friendly and caring staff and focuses on working with children and adults with learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, concussion, traumatic brain injury, and many other unique vision dysfunctions. Professionally, he is trustee and past-president of the San Gabriel Valley Optometric Society. He served as a school board member at Arcadia Christian School from 2012 to 2015. In addition, he has been teaching children’s Bible lessons at his local Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) program since 2006.
